Program Summary
This was our inaugural English Language and Cultural Program in
Vancouver, Canada. We chose this region as a program site because
of its spectacular scenery, abundance of recreational opportunities
and safe and family oriented community.
Students spent a month studying at West Bay Elementary School in
the prestigious West Vancouver School District. Mr. Warren Player,
a certified ESL instructor, provided intensive English instruction
each morning emphasizing language development and comprehension.
Throughout the program, our students were also able to interact
with their Canadian peers through physical education, assembly meetings
and during recess and lunch breaks. In the afternoon, the class
had the opportunity to tour many wonderful sites in and around Vancouver.
Students were able to drink from the pristine waters flowing through
Lynn Canyon, visit the whales at the aquarium and walk across the
famed Capilano Suspension Bridge. A highlight of the program included
a ski trip to Whistler, a world-class leader in ski resort destinations
and an official site for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Another
favourite was the Friday night dinners at Jang Mo Jib, a Korean
restaurant that suited the palate of each of our students.
Although our students had to brave the wettest January on record
since 1979, they stayed positive and were able to be part of an
enriching cultural experience spending time with their host families
and in a true Canadian school setting.
Good luck to all our students!
